CWCF Worker Co-op Awards

Award for Worker Co-op Best Practices

The Worker Co-op Best Practices Award is awarded annually to a worker co-operative which has demonstrated best practices in governance and/or operations, including in upholding the values and principles of the co-operative movement within their co-operative, and has shared, or is willing to share their experience and learnings with other worker co-operatives in Canada. More information on the submissions process for the 2024 awards is available here.

NOMINATIONS

Calls for nominations are generally launched in late summer. Co-operatives with worker-members on the CWCF Board or staff are ineligible. Winners are selected by the CWCF Board, and announced at the CWCF annual Conference in November each year. Generally the recipient co-op is from the region in which the Conference is held that year.

WINNERS

In years with an in-person Conference, CWCF covers the registration fee and expenses to have one member of the recipient co-operative attend the Conference. Winners are asked to present a brief profile of the co-operative and their practices at award acceptance, and there is also the opportunity to host a longer presentation or workshop at the Conference.

The Mark Goldblatt Worker Co-op Merit Award

Mark Goldblatt was the first President of CWCF from 1994 until 2007, and a founding leader of the Canadian co-operative housing movement since the 1970s. The Mark Goldblatt Worker Co-op Merit Award was named in his honour after he passed away in 2015, and goes to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to worker co-operation in Canada.
