Marty Meyer was acclaimed as CWCF’s Prairies/NWT/Nunavut Director at the 2025 AGM. Marty has been a Registered Massage Therapist in Calgary for over three decades, blending a deep passion for hands-on healing with a lifelong curiosity about how things work—whether that’s the human body, cooperative businesses, or the systems that support community well-being.
Marty’s journey began with technical training: Architectural Technology (1982–1985) and Broadcast Electronics (1979–1980) at SAIT. Life took a meaningful turn in 1990 when he earned his Massage Certificate from the Calgary College of Swedish Massage, followed by Advanced Massage Techniques at North Western School of Massage in 1991. From that point on, helping people feel and move better became his calling.
Over the years Marty has practiced in some of Calgary’s best-known clinics and clubs, including World Health Club (North Hill), alongside chiropractors Dr. Eaton and Dr. Lonny Bodell, Mayfair and 17th Ave Physiotherapy (Spectrum), Bearspaw Golf & Country Club, Bow Valley Club, The Glencoe Club, ProActive Health Group, Associate Physiotherapy & Massage, and the Kananaskis Nordic Spa. He’s treated everyone from weekend warriors to elite athletes, office workers to new mothers.
Deeply committed to his profession, he has held leadership roles in several Alberta massage associations. He served as Vice-President of the Alberta Society of Massage Therapists in 1992, and later as President (2001–2002) and Vice-President (2002–2003) of the Alberta Registered Massage Therapist Society. He has also been a longtime member of the AMTWP, now the NHPC.
Marty has taken extensive continuing education in Visceral Manipulation, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Lymphatic Drainage, Shiatsu, Touch for Health, Pregnancy Massage, Sports Massage, Chair Massage, Fascial work, and more—always bringing new tools back to his treatment table.
More recently, Marty’s interests have expanded into the cooperative movement. In 2017–2018 he trained as a CoopZone developer, followed by the CWCF Academy in 2021–2022, where he discovered a new way to support community resilience and worker ownership.
Today, whether he’s easing chronic pain, helping someone recover from injury, or advising on cooperative enterprise, Marty brings the same steady hands, clear mind, and genuine care that have defined his career since day one.
